A busy year ahead…
Firstly, thank you to TRAC (The Ryde Art Collective) for inviting me to be a guest artist at The Depozitory, Ryde, Isle of Wight. I took the opportunity to exhibit my stitched life drawings. I ‘draw’ the models direct with my sewing machine (thank you to all my fellow students who tolerate my machine chuntering through the class), onto canvas surfaces prepared with paint/collage/stitch. I love the freely expressive line I can achieve with the machine – rather like ‘wrong hand’ drawing or printmaking – a chance to fully engage right brain.
The first exhibition relating to the Damerham archaeological dig we visited last summer was at The Red House Museum, Christchurch, Hampshire. This initial response work will now be developed further for exhibitions at Brading Roman Villa, Isle of Wight in September and Kingston University, Surrey, next spring.
The next step will be to develop my stitched sketchbook work and the small wall hanging into large wall hangings representing the multiple narratives of an archaeological dig.
Exhibitions this year:
12th July – 26th July The Rope Store, Quay Arts, Isle of Wight
25th, 26th, 27th July Open Studios at Greenwood, St Helens, Isle of Wight
30th Aug – 29th Oct Dimbola Photographic Museum, Isle of Wight
1st Sept – 5th Oct Brading Roman Villa, Isle of Wight
I will be posting developments of the work…
